I recently helped my friend with ladybug themed party for her daughter. In trying to find some fun decor for the party, I came up with the idea to turn paper lanterns into lady bugs (though I’m sure this idea is not an original one; I just don’t remember seeing it anywhere). It was so quick and easy, and I love how they turned out!

Supplies:
- 6 Paper Lanterns
- 12 “Fuzzy Sticks” (Pipe Cleaners)
- 1-2 Sheets Black Paper
- Circle Punch/Circle Cutter (optional)
- Double-sided tape
Step 1: Expand the lanterns per packaging instructions
Step 2: Cut 12-15 circles (1-2 inches in diameter) for each lantern; adhere to lantern with double-sided tape in a random patern
Step 3: Curl one end of each pipe cleaner into a loose swirl. I placed a pen under the pipe cleaner, holding the pipe cleaner between the pen and my thumb and pulled toward me in a curling motion–think of the same motion you use when blow drying your hair with a round brush. (No, those are not my man hands for those of you wondering; they belong to my wonderful hubby who curled the pipe cleaner for me while I photographed…thanks, babe!)
Twist the straight ends of two pipe cleaners together (3 or 4 twists).
Finally, affix to the hook/loop, and adjust the pipe cleaners to make amazing-looking antenna.
And there is your super-cute ladybug lantern! I hung mine using command hooks.
See where I party!

oh, they’re sooo nice!
thanx for the brilliant idea!

Could you tell me the size lanterns you used, the colors, and where you purchased them? I love this idea and would like to use it for my daughter’s June birthday. Thanks!
Hi Jill, I used 9 1/2 in lanterns from Party City. I would imagine that your local party store will carry them. Hope your daughter’s party goes well! =)
